Fast Friday: Double Butter Steakburger

I visited Steak and Shake and ordered a Double Butter Steakburger. I was interested to see what a burger smothered in butter would taste like. I added mayo to the burger because I love condiments. It originally came with only American cheese and grilled onions.

It is a good quality for a fast food burger. I did not notice a difference with the butter being on the burger except for the fact I needed more napkins. I loved how salty the burger was.

I would order this again, but add even more toppings.

Miller's Meats' Piggy Burger

I wasn't aware that Miller's Meats had their own prepared food and they just had bulk meat. Once I found out that they had a burger, I had to jump in. And jump in indeed as we visit Miller's Meats' Piggy Burger. Piggy Burger is pulled pork, an 1/3 pound sirloin burger, and your choice of cheese (pepperjack was suggested).

The toppings were pulled pork and pepperjack cheese (added their barbecue sauce). The pulled pork was a nice, smoked flavor. The barbecue sauce seemingly disappeared into the bun after a few minutes, but helped assist the pulled pork (in which the pulled pork did NOT need the sauce, rather the sauce was a compliment). The pepperjack added some kick as an accent to the toppings, but did not overtake the burger's flavors.

Toppings: 8

The burger patty was well seasoned and juicy. The smoked sirloin brings a good taste that other patties don't provide. This patty is hard to beat.

Patty: 10

The bun is completely missable. It doesn't detract from the burger, but the bun does nothing for it either. The only thing to note is the bun completely soaked in the barbecue.

Bun: 3

This burger is a well-rounded burger. This burger can be bigger than it is now, but the bun really holds this burger down. If they replace the bun with something more flavorful and not so spongy, this little piggy can go all the way home happy.

Black Rock's Over the Moon Burger

Kristina and I made our way to the Black Rock Bar and Grill, attached to the Franklin Park Mall in Toledo. Today's menu presents us with the Over the Moon Burger: Half pound Angus beef, pepperjack cheese, Chipotle mayo, bacon, and "half moon" mozzarella moons replacing the bun.

Let's start with what would be the bun. The sandwich had 4 mozzarella half moons in place of a bun. I love this idea. You still get the presentation of a sandwich while being unique with style. The takeaway is it is fairly hard to eat this with your hands and instead break out the knife and fork. Not an issue in this case, rather when you think of a burger, you think of grabbing it with your hands. The moons were freshly cooked. The breading complimented the mozzarella as it was light enough to not be overwhelmed with breading.

Bun: 8

The toppings had some challenges. The pepperjack gets lost in the sandwich as it is competing with the mozzarella, which dominated the sandwich, and the chipotle mayo, which is probably why there wasn't too much mayo on the burger. The chipotle mayo seemed to be there to say hi with the flavor, but it wasn't in every bite. The bacon was cooked well and had a fairly good taste.

Toppings: 7

The patty was cooked well done with a nice sear. It is always nice to have a cook who knows how to cook well done and still retain the flavor and juices. The seasonings faired well with the Angus beef that gave you that stand out flavor with a bit of a kick. This has been the best patty I have had this far with RateABurger.

Patty: 10

This burger was a nice surprise. I like to get burgers that most people may not get and see if you, the reader, should try it, too. This burger is their Marquee burger for a reason.

Perrysburgers' Kobe Beef Burger

We heard about this place a few years ago and decided to stop by for National Cheeseburger Day. Perrysburgers is located in Downtown Perrysburg. It's a relaxed  dining setting. The staff was very friendly and Tuesdays are Family Night, so we got 25% off of our bill. They also have all you can eat french fries.

The Kobe beef burger is a 1/2 pound patty of 100% New Zealand Kobe beef. It is topped with a garlic puree, 4 mushroom blend, onions, and bleu cheese crumbles. It is served on a buttered bun.

The bun was delicious, light and held in the toppings. It paired with the burger nicely. It was was a good bread to beef ratio.

The toppings are almost as good as the patty. The mushroom blend added a great earthly flavor and didn't feel like they were just pulled out of a can. The garlic puree was strong enough to cut through the bleu cheese crumbles. The bleu cheese crumbles were there but not overwhelming like some bleu cheeses.

The patty was so tender and juicy. It was seasoned well and was cooked to perfection. This is a patty I will definitely want to eat again! It was like eating steak and melted in your mouth.

This burger should come with a knife, fork, and napkins warning. Burgers like this don't come around often. If you don't eat it with a knife and fork, be sure to get several paper towels off the roll before starting because if is a 2 hands needed burger.

Fast Friday: The Impossible Whopper

We are in an obscure time where people want to taste red meat but not actually eat the red meat. With the increasing demand, Burger King jumped on the opportunity to make a red meat burger that does not actually have meat in it. And thus we are presented with The Impossible Whopper.

This burger is exactly like a standard Whopper: same toppings and same bun...just a different patty. The patty is a charbroiled plant based patty. And despite that difference, it tastes exactly like the Whopper. It may perhaps have more charbroiled flavor on it than normal, but it is a near perfect replica of it's red meat counterpart.

I've had other red meat alternative patties...this one surpasses everyone. They did something that was...well... impossible. I will be having this again.

Try it and try it again!

The Gathering's Sliders

RateABurger has been to most places in Findlay, Ohio. The Gathering in downtown Findlay is one of the last stops. They offer a set of sliders with smoked provolone and a carmelized onion marmalade on a pretzel bun.

The patty was unfortunate. It is a trait to offer a well done burger while keeping the juices and it's tenderness. The Gathering delivered on well done, but failed to keep the patty from pulling like rubber. The patty also didn't have any additional seasonings to make up for it.

Patty Score: 2

The toppings were well. The provolone was a compliment to the pretzel bun as the flavors did not fight. The marmalade was a nice addition and helps make up for the flavorless patties.

Toppings Score: 7

The bun was a pretzel bun. On paper, a slider pretzel bun seems like a good idea. A problem with pretzel bun in general is how dry and hard a bun can be. A smaller version make it about inedible. That is the case in this scenario.

Bun Score: 2

I wanted to like these sliders, but it just fell short completely.

City Tap's Black Swamp Burger

Nick and I decided to grab a burger for lunch in Bowling Green. We stopped at City Tap. I noticed that there was a patio and no one was eating outside. It was a beautiful day, and the patio was covered so we went to sit down. Unfortunately, there were Ash trays on the table. No problem, I thought, I'll go get a table inside since Nick and I don't smoke. Then I noticed the only tables that weren't high top tables were on the patio. So we gambled the patio.

I had originally planned to order the queso crunch, however, I was told that burger was not available due to them using a special event menu. So I instead settled for the Black Swamp Burger.  The burger has bacon, mushrooms, onions, mayonnaise, and swiss cheese.

As our burgers and fries came out I was excited! It looked great. Unfortunately, someone came out at the same time to smoke. I will try not to allow this to influence my review negatively.

The bun was a good roll, sweet and soft. It was one of those pieces of bread that you can smell the bread before you taste the bread. It matched the burger size well and kept all of the toppings in place.

The patty was a huge disappointment. It was dry and chewy. They asked how I would like it cooked. I asked for medium. There was zero pink meat or juice to be found in the patty. There was also no salt in the patty. Hamburger needs salt. When the waitress asked about our food, I expressed how I was disappointed in the burger. She did not even acknowledge that the cook was wrong when I showed her.

The toppings are lack luster as well. It was all flavorless. There was not enough bacon or onions. The mayonnaise was virtually non-existent.  The mushrooms were the only thing that added moisture to the sandwich. The cheese did it's job, but I wish it had been a thicker cut or if they would have put two pieces of cheese on it.

I threw away about half of my burger. The fries were great though...

Pilgrim's Breakfast Burger

While adulting and doing errands in Findlay, we decided to stop in to a restaurant that has the word "food" stretched across their roof.  This diner style restaurant has a breakfast burger that I was excited to try. The breakfast burger is a cheeseburger topped with hashbrowns, bacon, and an egg.

The bun was so soft and warm. It gave the illusion of fresh baked roll. It did a great job of holding all the toppings in place.

Toppings are excellent. My only critique is I could have used another strip or two of bacon. It was nice to have two over easy eggs so that the egg yolk was through out the burger.  The hashbrowns were fresh from the grill and has just the right amount of crisp on them.

The burger was a delicious and juicy grill top burger. It was seasoned well with salt and pepper. I love how tender the burger was.

This burger should come with a knife and fork warning. I love when you get a good juicy sloppy burger that you need to wash your hands after eating.

Jack B's Jack-B Burger

We decided to revisit our 2018 Burger of the Year because we had heard that they are changing their buns. We wanted to know if  they could improve this tasty burger. Nick completed their review from last year on the Heavy-B.

My burger had cheese, bacon, mayo, and BBQ sauce. They are currently trying out a bakery roll bun.

I was very happy with the cook on a patty. It was a perfect medium. It was juicy and tender.  The  patty was perfectly caramelized. I could have used a touch more salt and pepper in the hamburger meat. It became a little to plain flavored at times.

The toppings complimented the patty and bun. The bacon was crispy but not crunchy. I love when a restaurant doesn't skimp on the condiments. This is a burger you definitely need napkins for and to wash your hands afterwards. The BBQ sauce had a sweet and spicy, smoked flavor that when great with the bacon.

Swapping the bun to a bakery roll bun was a great move. It felt fresh and had a great chew. Having a thicker bun like this helped hold all of the deliciousness of the burger.

Lima Avenue Root Beer Stand's Bacon Double Cheeseburger

I love restaurants that have a cuteness factor. The Root Beer Stand has just that because it is set up like a traditional Drive-in. I love when you can get the tray set up after your window has been rolled down. It makes you feel a little nostalgic and think about a day gone by.  I ordered the double cheeseburger and had bacon and mayonnaise added to it. I requested no pickles.

The bun is a traditional store white bread bun. It did it's job well for this drive up diner.

The burger flavor was great. It was seasoned well with salt and patty and tasted like fresh hamburger. The patty had a crispy caramelized outside.

The toppings were great. There was enough mayonnaise and cheese. The bacon was crispy, but  not crunchy. Unfortunately, there was a fatal mistake with my burger. Anyone who hates pickles knows that if you pick off the actual pickle, the juices have already ruined the food. There were no pickles on my sandwich, but in two spots of my burger, I could distinctly taste pickles. I'm so sad that whoever made my sandwich pulled pickles off of it because it ruined my experience.

Fricker's Loaded Brew Burger

We stopped at Fricker's in Findlay for cheeseburgers. I ordered the Fricker's Loaded Brew Burger. It is a burger topped with brew city fries, beer cheese, and bacon crumbles.

The bun was average and did it's job of holding the burger.

The toppings are the star of this burger. The French fries are crispy, cheesey, and salty. The bacon gets lost. I forgot that it was on the sandwich until I reread the menu.

The burger makes you wish you had just ordered the cheese fries. It's bland and turns to mush in your mouth.

BG Burgers' Jalapeno Popper Topped Burger

Bowling Green is not too far from our home. It is a town that I always underrate and tend to forget about since we end up in Findlay quite often. Today, I may have found a contender for the Best Burger of 2019 Award.

BG Burgers is in downtown Bowling Green, not too far from my favorite cookie bakery (Insomnia Cookie). When your restaurant has burger in the name, I have high hopes. I ordered the Jalapeno Popper Topped Burger and was so pleasantly surprised!

The Jalapeno Popper Topped Burger  is a half pound burger loaded with fried jalapeno poppers, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onions, and spicy mayo. It is served on a delicious brioche bun.

The patty was amazing. I will need to eat burgers from BG Burgers on a regular basis. They get their meat in fresh from Belleville Brother's Market. If you will say where you get your meat from, that lets me know how much pride you take in your food. The hamburger was grilled to a magnificent medium. It had such a great flavor, tenderness and juiciness. It was seasoned fantastically!

The bun is fresh. I didn't find out from their website where they get their buns from, but it wouldn't surprise me if they baked them fresh on site or ordered them from a local bakery. There is something about the smell of fresh bread that sets it apart from a other sandwich material.

The toppings we're a perfect compliment to the burger. The pepper jack cheese was not too spicy and had a great pepper taste. I do wish that there had been more mayonnaise. I love mayonnaise more than the average person though. The jalapeno poppers were crispy and full of cream cheese. The red onions had a nice crunch but we're not over powering. The lettuce leaf was crisp and a pretty shade of green. The tomatoes were fresh and juicy, like out of a family garden.

I can't wait to go back and eat this burger again or try the build my own options.

Denny's American Diner Double

I stopped by Denny's for lunch the other day.

The toppings are carmelized onions, American cheese, and "All-American" sauce. The sauce reminds me of the Frisco sauce at Steak and Shake, but not on the same quality. It is creamy, but flavorless. The carmelized onions dictate the flavor of the burger, which is good news for the sauce and bad news for the cheese, which is an afterthought despite encumbering the burger patties.

The Patty is not seasoned and has no flavor. This is to be expected at a diner like Denny's, but it doesn't take away how disappointing the flavor was.

The bun was a brioche bun and you could not tell. It had no structure or flavor. Barely does it's job as a bun.

When you feel like you can do better at home, you don't have much hope for your meal.

Guest Review: Holy Toledo Tavern's Turkey Burger with Bacon

My name is Michelle, I'm a guest here. I have the luxury of living close to Downtown Toledo where there is an array of restaurants. My husband and I made a restaurant bucket list if you want to call it that. We said we wanted to try all the restaurants that are downtown, just to try something different. Gets boring eating at the same old places. Our first restaurant we chose was Holy Toledo Tavern. I ordered the Turkey Burger with Bacon and hand cut fries (which were fantastic).

Let's start with the bun, it was a buttered top Brioche bun that was slightly toasted which delicious.

The 7oz turkey burger was seasoned really well with garlic and spices. For the price point of $11.95 with an add on of $1 for the bacon.  I was disappointed because it was a frozen patty. However, the spices and toppings did make up for that, a little!

On to the topping. Like I said, I had bacon added because well, who doesn't love bacon. The other toppings included avacados, tomatoe and a garlic aioli on the bun. The toppings were a great combo with the spices from the burger.

Overall I was satisfied but not sure that I would order it again because of the frozen patty.

Focaccia's Delicatessen- Focaccia's Burger

One of the perks of working in downtown Toledo is the variety of restaurants you can try. I was excited to see that Focaccia's has a burger.

The Focaccia Burger is an Angus beef burger topped with lettuce, tomato, your choice of cheese and rosemary mayonnaise. When you order they ask if you want to add on bacon and mushrooms. Um, yes please!

The burger was seasoned well, and that might be what saved it. The patty was dryer than I like. I was not a fan of the meat texture. The burger was the right size for the bun.

The bun was a Kaiser roll. It was soft a felt fresh. It did a great job holding the toppings in place

The toppings were the highlight of the burger. The cheese was gooey and delicious.bi ordered cheddar, but they have other cheeses you could choose. The mushrooms were salty and seasoned well. The bacon was done to the point that you could bite it, but it wasn't crunchy. The rosemary mayo  was a little overwhelming, but was a nice change to a standard burger

Fast Food Friday: Dairy Queen Flamethrower Grill Burger

I love food with flavor and heat. At home I like putting Franks or buffalo sauce on a burger. The Dairy Queen Flamethrower seemed exciting to try.

The burger has lettuce, tomato, pepper jack cheese, and flamethrower sauce. The grilled flavor was overwhelming.  The lettuce and tomato I took off. They were so pale! The flame sauce had too much of a vinegar flavor. I wish there was more cheese.

Verdict: buy a blizzard or cheese curds instead.

Tony's Big Ben Burger

Today, I was in Findlay for a dinner meeting at Tony's and thought it would be a great time to try one of their burgers.  I had originally ordered the bacon cheeseburger, but after some bantering between the waitress, cook, and I, it was decided I should get their famous Big Ben Burger.

Tony's Big Ben Burger boasts a one pound burger that you can have cheese added. The burger originally comes with lettuce, tomato and barbeque sauce. I added the cheese and mayo and dropped the lettuce.

I was so happy to see the amount of cheese that was added to the burger. There isn't anything better than gooey cheese. The mayo and barbeque sauce complimented each other well. The barbeque sauce had a  great sweet and tangy flavor. The tomatoes were fresh and juicy.

The bun wasn't exciting but was fresh and soft. It was nice that it held the large burger and soaked up the deliciousness.

The patties appeared prepackaged as they were perfect circles. It made me question if they were fresh or frozen. The flavoring on the burger was good, but I needed about twice the amount of it. It felt like it was missing salt. This unfortunately made the burger feel like a large bite of plain hamburger in your mouth. I was also a little disappointed that I didn't get to pick the cook on my burger. It came out well done and was luckily juicy.

Be prepared to take home leftovers.

Fergie's Mushroom and Swiss Burger

Fergie's Burgers Fries and Pies is a small shop in Findlay near the industrial park. I was afraid to go to this location as I had tried other food items there when they opened and was disappointed. I hadn't tried any of their burgers yet, so it was time to try it. I decided to try their mushroom and Swiss Burger.

Location: Fergie's Burgers Fries and Pies
Date Examined: 4/22/19

The toppings for the burger we're mushrooms, swiss cheese, and ranch. Where to start? The ranch was an odd taste of ranch....overly tangy. The swiss cheese is a processed cheese that tastes more of a white American cheese. The mushrooms, though delightful, are canned mushrooms. Ultimately the toppings came off as quick and cheap.

The Patty was seasoned well and had a quality meat from Miller's Meats in Findlay. Easily the best part of the burger.

The bun was forgettable. Not a stand out yet not a problem.

This burger was missing a bit. The toppings took down an otherwise good burger. I love me some canned mushrooms...like for pizza...but not a burger. A normal mushroom and Swiss has mayo....this has ranch. I would normally applaud someone for trying something different, but the ranch didn't do the burger any favors. I would not mind trying another burger there, but not this one.

03/29/19: Smokin' B's Pineapple and Swiss Burger

Kristina and I strolled in to Leispic, Ohio to try a couple of different burgers from Smokin' B's. I decided to try arguably the most unique burger they have, the Pineapple and Swiss Burger.

The toppings are...well...pineapple and swiss. They also have the traditional garbs in lettuce, tomato, and onion. The pineapple had a nice grill taste and it worked well with the cheese.

The patty was a third pound piece of meat. No seasoning, no flavor. It was cooked well, as I like it, but the charred taste didn't add to the patty.

The bun was a honey bun, toasted on the inside. Flavor was standard. Nothing special.

The Pineapple and Swiss Burger was not a solid burger, but has ambitions to be better. Hopefully it had an off day with the patty, but this round was not convincing for me to return. This was more like a pineapple and miss Burger.

3/29/19: Smokin' B's Hangover Burger

On Friday nights during the winter months, my family gathers together at my brother's house to watch movies. During one of these nights, Nick and I decided to stop at Smokin' B's, located on Main Street in Leipsic, Ohio.

On this day, I ordered the Hangover Burger. The Hangover Burger is a 1/3 pound patty with American cheese, fried egg, peanut butter, and bacon. I don't like pretzel buns, so I had it substituted for the honey bun.

The bun was ok. It was soft and sweet. It held the toppings together nicely.

The toppings were plentiful. The cheese gets lost in the other toppings. I wish the fried egg would have been over easy or over medium, but it was cooked solid. The bacon was so chewy that it was distracting. The peanut butter became be like paste in your mouth and was hard to get down without water. It would have been better to have about half of the peanut butter.

The patty was grossly overcooked. It was so dry. No moisture was left in the patty.

I love the idea of this burger. I hope that this was just a bad burger day. The fried mushrooms I had for an appetizer were some of the best I've ever had.

FFFAST Friday 3/15/19: Burger King's Quarter Pounder

We haven't had any fast food reviews since Wendy's back in 2016. We had chosen not to do fast food and focus more on "unique" locations. Every so often, we will visit the fast burger genre. On occasional Fridays, RateABurger will present a new burger.

Note: Fast food is it's own genre, so comparing Burger King with a Jack B's is not a fair comparison. Fast food burgers will be rated in comparison to other fast food burgers. With that said, this brings us to the Fast Food Friendly Scale.

Green: RateABurger approves.
Yellow: Proceed with caution.
Red: Save your money and taste buds.

Burger King's attempt at the quarter pounder was good. It is above the standard of a normal burger, but it is generic with it's toppings.Keep in mind, with Burger King patties, the charcoal grill taste can have a residual taste for a couple of hours after eating.

2/27/19: Mancy's Executive Burger

Mancy's in Findlay is just a baby in comparison to the Toledo counterpart in terms of tenure. Findlay's version opened inside the Hancock Hotel this time last year. Kristina and I decided it was time to try out their sole burger on their menu....the Executive Burger.

The Executive Burger is found on their Bar Bites menu, and it comes with the standard toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles) with your choice of Cheddar, Swiss, and provolone cheese, in which I chose Cheddar for this review.

The toppings were fresh. The tomato was a proper cut and one big slice. The lettuce was crisp and not withered. The pickles and onion pieces were uniform and quality as well.

The Patty was the star of the show. This half pound Angus beef was juicy while it was presented well done. It had a stand alone flavor that would carry itself without help.

The bun was presented as a bakery fresh roll, and it didn't disappoint. The butter from the roll felt like it melted to the Patty for a much richer flavor. The bun itself was fresh and fluffy.

The burger is basic, but that did not go against them here as toppings really aren't needed here, which is the best compliment I can offer a burger.

2/16/18 Bru Burger Bar's Mexicali BBQ Burger

This weekend we were in Cincinnati for a concert. We stopped before the concert at Bru Burger Bar in downtown Cincinnati. It is only a few blocks away from the Ohio River.

Today, I ordered the Mexicali BBQ Burger. It is a beef patty topped with white queso, pickled jalapenos, fried onions, house chipotle BBQ, guacamole, tomato, and lettuce.

The bun was of great quality. It was soft to touch and had a great texture. The bun was the perfect size for the patty. It did a great job holding all of the toppings and soaking up the delicious burger juices.

Can we just pause for a moment and appreciate the amount of toppings that go on this burger? The white queso complimented all of the other flavors well. It was creamy and delicious. The pickled jalapenos were cut into slices and smaller chunks. I appreciated this. I was surprised the jalapenos seemed sweeter than spicy. The fried onions got lost a little bit in the flavor profile and got soggy with the toppings, but added a nice flavor. The BBQ sauce was surprisingly a great addition to this burger. The guacamole added a nice creamy element to the burger. The lettuce and tomato were fresh.

The patty was seasoned well. It was juicy and cooked to a perfect medium. It was not too thick or too thin. There was a nice charing on the outside of the burger, but left the patty tender.

This is a two hands needed burger. You may also want to ask for extra napkins. I recently learned that there are a few more locations for this burger bar, so make sure you look them up if you are traveling.

2/6/19 Mr. Twister's Bacon Cheeseburger

Nick and I were in Findlay a little early before our family group meeting. We needed to have some dinner, so we stopped at Mr. Twisters to find some cheeseburgers.

I knew stopping at a local ice cream shop had little chance for an amazing burger, but one of my favorite shows is Triple D, so I was hopeful. There are two burger options. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and Nick ordered the pizza burger.

You get to pick your toppings after bacon and cheese. I thought mayonnaise and barbecue sauce would pair nicely with cheese and bacon. I was impressed that I received two slices of cheese for my burger. I was less than impressed with the quality of the bacon. It was extremely chewy. I like my bacon a little chewy versus crispy but this was not a chewy versuse crispy problem this was a good versus bad quality problem. The barbecue sauce had a great smoky flavor.

I was happy with the softness and the size of the bun. It had a nice flavor. It paired nicely with the size of the patty. I appreciated that the bun was of a high quality even though it was most likely a store-bought bun since area for cooking the food is quite small.

The patty was less than desirable. The coloring seemed off for a beef patty. I ate it because we needed to have dinner before going to our meeting. There was zero seasoning on the burger. I have definitely eaten cheeseburgers worse than this but will plan to stop for coney dogs and ice cream next time.

1/30/19 Scrambler's Angus Cheeseburger

Kristina and I hadn't ate a burger in the new year, and we wanted to try something new to us, thus Scrambler's in Findlay was brought before us. Due to their limited burger options, Kristina took the Portabella and Swiss (review up on RAB
Com) and I took the Angus Cheeseburger.

This Cheeseburger is what it is...plain with no hupla. It came with the standard burger dressings of lettues, tomato, pickle, and onion along with a blend of Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese. I just left the cheese on the burger....and that was the best part about the burger.

The Patty was mediocre at best. This Patty lacked any flavor and the Angus meat did not help.

The bun was a brioche roll and it was tasty. It had just enough fluff and grilled taste to help carry the burger home.

This burger was a disappointment. It lacked any imagination beyond imagining it is a better burger. This is one step above the Iron Skillet burger....and that isn't saying anything. Perhaps they should stick to breakfast.

1/30/2019 Scrambler's Garlic Portabella and Swiss Angus Burger

Today is one of the coldest days I remember. It's so cold that I took advantage of using my vacation days to not have to go out in the cold. Luckily for me, my husband went to work today and offered to bring home cheeseburgers.

I was excited to see Scrambler's had a burger because it was delicious when Drug Reps would bring the breakfast sandwiches to the office. There are two different burgers that they offer. Check out Nick's review of their other cheeseburger posted. The burger is served on a brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, pickle, baby Swiss cheese, zesty garlic, and mushrooms.

The brioche bun was nice and light. It smelled like sweet, fresh bread. You knew it was fresh, whether or not it was store bought I could not tell. You could imagine how good it would have tasted fresh out of the oven. With all this praise comes one critique, it was a really big Bun. It overwhelmed the patty.

The toppings were pretty good too. The mushrooms were chopped small enough that the flavor was there and you had some in every bite. The baby Swiss was a perfect complement to the garlic and mushrooms. It was not an overwhelming Swiss cheese. The garlic was a little too strong. It has left an oil film on my tongue that I am sure will stick with me for awhile. This burger was screaming for sauce. Everything felt a little dry in my mouth. I took off the tomato and lettuce. Both were a little wilted, but I think that is because we ordered the food to go.

The patty was not spectacular. It was not bad but it is completely forgetable. The toppings we're the star of this sandwich. My patty also needed salt and pepper. It was a whole lot of plain beef flavor in a perfectly circular patty. I doubt very much that the patty is hand pressed for this reason, and may have even been frozen.

Moral of the story go for breakfast, that is delicious.
