12-8-18 Buffalo Wild Wings Buffalo Tender Stacked Burger

This evening I learned that two of my favorite foods had been combined. I was so excited to try it. I love Cheeseburgers and I might love Buffalo Chicken just as much.  The burger was topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, and blue cheese crumbles. Much to my horror, they did not put buffalo on my chicken tenders. They were naked.

The bun was a standard bun. Nothing to write home about, but no disappointment either.

The patty was again standard. Not exciting but not terrible either. I would have preferred more flavor from a grill or salt, something. It was also drier than I would have liked.

As mentioned, the chicken did not get buffalo sauce.  Luckily we picked the sandwiches up to go, so Sweet Baby Rays buffalo sauce came to the rescue out of my refrigerator.

The lettuce was crisp. The tomato was bland. The blue crumbles were mild and complimented the sandwich well. The onions were too strong in their raw state, so I removed them.

12-1-2018 Iron Skillet's Mushroom and Swiss Burger

Tonight, we stopped at Iron Skillet in North Baltimore. I had heard that it has good food and that most people skip it because it is located in the gas station. I was impressed by the menu selection. That is where they stopped impressing me though.

The burger was a mushroom and Swiss burger topped with mayonnaise. It was ordered medium.

The bun....store bought. Plain. Zero flavor. It was, however, soft and not stale. I picked most of the dollar-store-special-bun off of the patty.

The patty also lacked flavor. I would be shocked to learn if they even salted the patty. The patty left a greasy film in your mouth. It was over cooked. It was past well done. I consider it burnt. There was not one dripping of juice in the burger. You needed water after you swallowed to feel like you weren't choking on the dryness. I would also be surprised if I learned that this burger was not frozen. I wonder if it tasted so bad from freezer burn.

The toppings were not what I expected. The mushrooms were probably taken off of the salad bar. They did not seem to fit the burger. They also were flavorless. The mayonnaise did not help with the burgers dryness. The Swiss cheese was the only redeeming quality of the entire burger.

I will never go back to this restaurant despite the large menu due to the lack of quality of the ingredients and the lack of flavor. I can make a burger twice as good at home on the stove top for a third of the price.

11/25/2018 Beer Barrel's Beer Barrel Bacon BBQ Burger

Tonight, we stopped by Beer Barrel and pick up some burgers. I ordered the Beer Barrel Bacon BBQ Burger.

I love a good barbeque burger. It can take you back to summer and vacationing. I am sad to report this burger did not do that for me.

The bun was a butter split top roll. It was the same size as the burger which for me is a plus. It is frustrating when there is too much or not enough bread when you pick it up. The bun was soft and paired well with the burger.

The patties at Beer Barrel are 1/2 ground sirloin. I ordered my burger medium. Unfortunately, it came out almost well done. It was a juicy patty which saved it. The patty was seasoned well and it didn't taste like you were just chewing on a chunk of hamburger.

The toppings are probably the disappointing part of the burger. The onion ring was too hard. I couldn't tell if it was over or under done. I picked part of it off my burger because it wasn't worth the fight. The barbeque sauce has a sweet tang to it. It was the highlight of the toppings. I saw bacon on the burger but sit not taste it. They probably need to double the bacon on the sandwich so you know it is there. I had mayo added to the sandwich because I love how it pairs with BBQ sauce. It was a great addition.

I was sad that I didn't notice prior to ordering the burger that it did not come with cheese. Cheese would have helped this burgers overall flavor.

11/13/18: Texas Roadhouse's All American Burger

When you think of Texas Roadhouse, you don't think about a burger, rather a steak. But Texas Roadhouse offers three different offerings for a burger. I am focusing on their All American Burger.

The toppings are American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. I just had a plain cheeseburger today. The cheese was at a weird stage where it was not special, but the burger would fall apart without it.

The Patty was meh. It wasn't bad per se, but it is not a extraordinary burger. Not much seasoning, but the seasoning did add to the Patty.

The bun is an oversized seseme seed bun. It had a toasted middle that was toasted perfectly. It serviced it's purpose: it held the burger together and didn't take away from it.

This burger was not bad, but you don't want to pay 10 bucks for a burger you can make at home...if not better. I would not pass on their other burgers yet as judgment has yet to be determined, but I would rather get a nice steak than a burger here.

11/8/18: Jack B's Heavy-B Burger

We have done RateABurger for near three years now, and I think we can close shop now. We found....IT. It is hiding in the middle of downtown Findlay. It is Jack B's.

The Heavy-B Burger is one pound of delicious patties, cheese, and toppings of your choice. I decided on a default ketchup and mustard.

The patties were half pound each with a delicious seasoning (seasoned salt among other ingredients). I don't know if I can do this patty justice. Did it need toppings? No. It was cooked perfectly with flavor in every bite.

The bun was a toasted potato bun. The bun had a nice taste to compliment the rest of the burger and to not overwhelm the rest of the burger.

This has been the best burger I have had from a non-fast-food place. Please check out Jack B's and find their goodness there.

10/19/18: Findlay Brewing Company's FBC Burger

Kristina and I visited the Findlay Brewing Company to try their limited selection of burgers. While Kristina decided to try the limited edition burger, I have tried their mainstay - the FBC Burger.

The toppings vary, but I had cheddar cheese...and it was fantastic. Even melted around the patty with a solid flavor.

The patty was delicious. It was as the same size of the bun, which is always good, and it was a thicker, formed patty. The charred taste easily compliments the burger.

The bun can be seen as a standard bun, but it is actually not bad at all. The bun tastes of quality (is that possible?) with a nice, toasted middles.

While this burger looks plain (the default burger has more toppings), the FBC Burger is a really good burger that can stand with no toppings better than other burgers with the works.

10-19-18 Findlay Brewing Company's Mushroom and Swiss Burger **limited edition**

Today was a "I don't feel like cooking" Friday, so we took off to Findlay to go get burgers. We stopped at the Findlay Brewery because we heard their burgers were fantastic.

I ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger. This is on a rotation at the restaurant, so it is not available every month. This is quite a shame because I really enjoyed the burger.

The bun was excellent. You could have eaten by itself. My burger was so juicy that it did a great job of soaking in all of juice to make the bread that much more flavorful.

The toppings were not spared. Some restaurants only put a few mushroom slices on and then you don't taste mushrooms throughout the burger. This was not the case with the Findlay Brewery. There was a good 1/4-1/2 inch of mushrooms slices across the entire burger. The Swiss cheese was plenty and able to keep the majority of the mushrooms in the burger. I am positive there was a sauce or mayonnaise on the burger, which added some great flavor, however, I won't comment on it more than this because the burger is not listed on the menu and I don't want to incorrectly guess what was the condiment.

This was a premium patty. It was full of flavor, seasoned well, and juicy. My burger was cooked to a perfect medium. This is a burger you need to hold with both hands. I liked how the patty kept it's form on the bun, but was tender and required minimal chewing in your mouth.

I am saddened that this burger is only occasionally available as it is one of the best mushroom and Swiss burgers I have ever eaten.

10-13-18 Keith's Dugout Double Cheeseburger

Today after a Saturday of errands, we stopped at Keith's Dugout to pick up a burger on the way home. I ordered a double cheeseburger with mayonnaise and tomato.

I was hoping for a delicious grilled diner style burger. The patties came out pressed wonderfully thin and crisped up. I wish they would have been seasoned better, at least give the patty some salt.

They had a small selection of toppings. I chose mayonnaise and a tomato to keep it simple. They placed a good amount of mayonnaise on the bun. The tomato was one of the worse I have had I picked it off and threw it away because I wondered if it was rotten.

The bun was a bun. I wish I had more to say about it. It did what it was meant to do; nothing more nothing less.

9/22/2018 Ohio Renaissance Festival's Irish Burger

This weekend we went to the Ohio Renaissance Festival located in Waynesville. Nick and I enjoy board games of all varieties, Sci-Fi movies, and not growing all the way up.

When you arrive it is like you stepped into a world forgotten and full of fantasy. There are tons of fun shops and shows to enjoy. The festival has a wide variety of food from many countries. I of course needed to try a burger.

I ordered an Irish Burger. It was bacon, sour cream grilled onions, and  sweet chili sauce cheeseburger.

The bun was most likely a Walmart special. Nothing fantastic about it. You could have this bun on a burger you made at home though.

The toppings were not as full of flavor as I would have hoped. The onions were soggy and if I wouldn't have opened the burger I would have thought they forgot the chili sauce and sour cream.

The burger was a frozen special. I don't think they even put salt or pepper on it. It is worse than a school cafeteria quality burger. For $12, I wish I would have tried other food. I ended up throwing part of the burger away because it wasn't worth the bland calories.

9/17/18: Logan's Irish Pub's Steakhouse Burger

Kristina and I went to Logan's Irish Pub to try some of their burgers. Check out Kristina's review on the Create Your Own Burger.

The toppings of the Steakhouse Burger were pepperjack cheese, A1 sauce, onion straws and horseradish mayo. I did ask for no horseradish mayo. the A1 was the star of the burger. The A1 was in every bite...and that was it. The cheese was there, but it didn't taste like a typical pepperjack cheese. It just tasted bland. the onion straws were also unflavorful and didn't add much to the sandwich.

The patty was alright. It wasn't a patty that takes away from the rest of the burger, but it is not a stand-out burger. It was cooked correctly, but it had no seasoning or taste to it.

The bun was okay, but could've been better.

The burger was meh. This is one of the burgers you can make at home better than it was presented.

9-17-18: Logan's Irish Pub's Build Your Own Burger

This evening we picked up burgers from the Logan's Irish Pub. We had heard that the pub on Main Street has a great burger.

I love when restaurants have a build your own burger and you can put as many toppings on it as you want. I ordered a medium rare burger topped with bacon, avocado, onion straws, Swiss cheese, and cheddar cheese.

The type of bun isn't listed on the menu, but I would venture to guess it is a white bread bun. It has a hint of sweetness and complimented the burger well. I appreciated that it wasn't a super thin or thick bun. It was a good ratio of bread to meat.

The toppings were perfect. I was impressed about the amount of avocado that was on my burger. It wasn't nearly 1-2 slices, there was practically 1/2 an avocado on the burger. The bacon was thicker cut and salty. You were able to bite through it without pulling the whole piece of bacon out. It also wasn't so crisp that it snapped from being over cooked. The onion straws were thin and full of flavor. I could have eaten a plate of them by themselves.

The patty was cooked to perfection. A lot of restaurants seem to struggle with a medium rare. It was a lovely juicy pink burger full of of flavor. It was a patty that made you remember why you loved burgers. The meat was seasoned well.

8/19/18: Cracker Barrell's Maple Jam and Bacon Burger

I have been at Cracker Barrell many times over my life. Over my time, I do not recall having a burger. I would tend to get the country fried steak. This time, I had their Maple Jam and Bacon  Burger.

Toppings were Colby cheese, Maple bacon, and a maple onion jam. I loved the cheese, but the maple bacon and maple onion jam were much. The bacon was a bit overdone and looked like it shrunk from a normal size. Maple onion jam was a conglomerate of flavors that countered each other, and made the flavor to be overwhelming. I ended up scrapping off some of the jam.

The patty was charred well and seasoned decently. No issues.

The bun wasn't special, but it wasn't horrible. It presented the patty and toppings properly.

I was not blown away by this burger. It seems the main attraction of the toppings were the detriment to the burger itself. Will try another CB burger, but not that one again.

8-9-18 Dead Dog Saloon's Cluckin Chuck

Dead Dog Saloon at Murrels Inlet in South Carolina was a wonderful restaurant that we accidentally found. It has previously been featured on The Travel Channel. I love my dog, Bailey, dearly and I was nervous about what kind of restaurant would have this name. The decor of the restaurant is the most original design of probably any restaurant I have eaten. There are hundreds of pictures in memory of dogs; some with pictures of their owners with them.

I ordered the Cluckin Chuck. It is a beef patty topped with a fried egg, cheddar cheese, bacon, and arugula on a potato bun.

My patty was cooked to perfection. It was juicy and full of flavor. You could taste the beef's freshness. It was a patty you wanted to have on every burger you were going to eat.

The bun was soft. Potato buns are so much sweeter than plain white bread buns. It paired with the burger nicely.

The toppings were a nice pairing. The arugula was a bit bitter, but that is typical. There was enough cheese to make you feel like you were eating a cheeseburger. The egg was fried over easy and spilled it's golden yolk over the entire patty. The bacon was crisp and not burnt. Prefect for a sandwich.

8/6/2018: BugerFi's Bacon Cheeseburger

We make a trip back to Bugerfi, but this time to the North Myrtle Beach location. Today I decided to try their bacon cheeseburger.

Burgerfi buns are one of my favorites. It is always soft and sweet. I love that they brand their buns. You can almost taste the blackened bread.

The patties were juicy but thin. They were salty and yummy. I would compare the patties to Five Guys, but made with better ingredients.

Today, I was disappointed in the toppings. There was not enough cheese and the bacon was overdone. I added mayonnaise and ketchup to the burger. This helped with the lack of cheese and the borderline burnt bacon.

8/4/18: Fuddrucker's Three Cheese Burger

We made it to Myrtle Beach! We gather every 3 years over to North Myrtle Beach and we first meet at the "World's Best Hamburgers" Fuddruckers! The menu here is a lot like Five Guys with the pick and choose toppings, but Fuddruckers has specialty burgers and I will review the Three Cheese Burger.

The toppings were just swiss, cheddar, and provolone cheese. All three cheeses make for a lovely layer that graciously coats the patty. All three types of cheese compliment each other in its flavors and makes for a nice presentation.

The patty was well-seasoned. It had a juicy, flavorful taste that pairs well with its toppings.

The bun is house made and super soft. Unlike other soft buns that just collapse, this bun keeps form and doesn't overwelm the burger.

It was a tall task to call yourself the World's Best Hamburger when there are so many other hamburgers out there. This could very well be the best.

8/4/2018 Fuddrucker's Hangover Burger

I love vacation. When you travel, you need to look and see if there is a Fuddruckers restaurant where you are staying. We love Fuddruckers because they make your burger to order and then have a topping bar.

Today I had the hangover burger. It comes with smokehouse bacon, cheddar cheese, and a fried egg.

The buns are made fresh in their bakery daily. The sesame seeds bun was a delicious soft bun. You could smell and feel how fresh the buns were.

If you have read my other blogs you know toppings are a huge make or break for my burgers.  Fuddruckers does toppings correctly. The egg was cooked to a perfect over easy and added a nice richness to the burger. The bacon was excellent. It was not overly crispy. The cheese was the right amount of cheese. I added mayonnaise, lettuce, and a tomato. There were easily a dozen more toppings you could have added in addition to these.

The burger was grilled to a perfect medium and seasoned to perfection. There isn't a thing I would change about the burgers cook or seasoning. I used multiple napkins and a knife a fork to devour this burger.

8/3/2018: Cowbells Burger and Whiskey Bar's Sodapop Burger

Vacation time! One of the perks of going on vacation is being able to try new restaurants and burgers. On our way to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, we stopped in Charlotte, North Carolina for the evening.

I love walking in cities for a day or two. You get to listen to the bustle of the city and watch people go by. There are sometimes street performers preforming or music being played. You see art, architecture, and cultures other than your own. We had heard from others that Cowbells is the place to go for a burger.

I ordered the Sodapop burger. It is a barbecue patty topped with Sriracha grilled prosciutto, crispy onion straws, house pickles, iceberg lettuce, Roma tomato, melted Gruyere cheese, chipotle ketchup, and soy sauce, served on a sesame seed bun. I ordered the burger without the house pickles.

The bun was average. Nothing spectacular, but not bad. It would have been nice if it was toasted or warmed a bit.

The patty was delicious. It was salted beautifully. It was tender. The meat was so juicy. The burger was cooked to a lovely medium. There was a nice charring on the outside of the meat.

The toppings are some of the best I have had. The sriracha grilled prosciutto was so spicy. I could not stop eating it though. It was to the point it made you cough a little and your eyes water a bit. It was just he right amount of heat. The crispy onion straws turned a bit soggy with all of the toppings, but I appreciated the sweetness. It helped lower the heat from the prosciutto.  The rest of the toppings got lost in the heat. I would have liked more cheese to balance the heat.

This is a burger that you need multiple napkins or a fork and knife. It was a delicious cheeseburger. I am sad this restaurant is so far away. It is a burger I wish I could have again.

8/3/18: Cowbell Burger and Whiskey Bar's Jerry Garcia Burger

Kristina and I started our South Carolina journey of burgers in Charlotte with a stop at the Cowbell. This location was modernly dressed with the atmosphere catered to young adults. Check Kristina's review on the Sodapop Burger. Today, we review the Jerry Garcia, the open faced burger.

The toppings were carmelized onions, mushrooms, Swiss, and brown gravy. The onions and mushrooms were a bit much. They both tend to overcome the gravy and didn't overly compliment it. The cheese, due to the rest of the toppings, was just there.

The patty was seasoned well and cooked to my liking. No issues with this one.

The bun...bread was a nice cut of sourdough. A mistake many outlets have with open faced sandwiches is to provide a think slice of what bread they are displaying. This slice was able to hold up the burger and didn't get overly soggy with the toppings. The sourdough itself was a good taste, but didn't take away from the burger.

The Jerry Garcia was a good burger, but not a great burger. The toppings fighting with each other for attention seemed to hinder my rating for this burger.

7/27/18: Guajillo's Mexican Burger

Today it is history for RateABurger: Not only am I reviewing a burger I have had before, but I am reviewing a new ground for these burgers....two different patties.

Guajillo's in Bowling Green, Ohio provides me what they call the Mexican Burger. Let's take a look at it.

The toppings are simple...lettuce, tomato, and cheese. Nothing special about the toppings.

The patty combination is a decent-sized beef patty and a fairly thin chorizo patty. The first time I ate this, it was a thin patty...this time it was crumbles. The crumbles were overcooked (I know I order well done, but these were BURNT) to where I could barely taste the meat and not crunch on the charred parts. The beef patty is a plain beef patty with no additives (seasonings, etc). Just cooked to order.

The bun was a simple bun...borderline one from the store. It fell flat as I grabbed for the burger. It turned into a mushy pancake in the process...it would've been better if they were actually pancakes.

I was disappointed with this round of the burger. The other one I had was similar as mentioned, but the chorizo was cooked better and full of flavor...which I missed in this one.

7/19/2018 Nick and Nino's Cheeseburger

If you are ever in Toledo on a Thursday afternoon, head over to Levis square. There you will find food trucks. I stopped at Nick and Ninos to taste their spin on cheeseburgers.

The bun did its job. Nothing special, no complaints, and held the cheeseburger nicely. It was soft and felt fresh.

The burger patties were seasoned well. They are nice thin charred patties. I was surprised to get two on my sandwich. I will have to watch the menus better.

The topping were average. They boasted a secret sauce. It was orange in color, but I could only see it on my bun. I did not taste it's flavor, which lead me to using the mayonnaise packet provided. The lettuce was nice and crisp. Cheese is a favorite of mine and I was glad to see there was a piece for each patty and not only one thrown between the patties.

7/17/18: Legends' Legendary Ono Burger

As followers of this blog may have figured out by now, I like weird burgers. I like burgers with unique presentations and flavors. Some are strikes and are pretty bad (for example, Ralphie's Peach Habanero). Some are home runs and present everything that a burger should be (for example, Five Guy's Burgers and Fries...fantastic). Today...this was a double...the metaphor and not the burger. It was a single.

The Ono Burger is a single patty with pepperjack cheese, cooked ham slices, cooked pineapple chunks, and honey barbeque sauce.

The bun was a nice, toasted bun. It is a bun that didn't engulf the patty, but it didn't skimp on the flavor and adds well as an accessory rather than a burden.

The patty was a beautifully-seasoned and didn't take away from the overall taste. It was a bit salty for my liking, but it has been a better attempt than many burgers.

The toppings is what I came for in this burger. I've had apples and peaches (kinda) on my burger. So me, who loves pineapple in its many forms, had to try pineapple on a burger. Having had two different apple burgers before, the biggest take away from them had to be how the fruit was presented. One apple burger had pieces of apple in the burger and one had the apple slices on top like a topping. The pieces of apple in the burger became the centerpiece of the burger, mixing in the juice of the patty and the sweet flavor of the apple. Putting apple slices on the burger and covering it with cheese gave me a taste of "old" (if I can describe that, I would) and the sense of "this should not be on my burger". Unfortunately, the pineapple gave me the latter feeling. I imagine it could've been the size of the chunks or the overall presentation, but it did not belong on this burger. I cannot see chunks of pineapple being in the burger either, but I have been proven wrong before. The ham with the patty was a nice flavor. The honey barbeque was a nice addition that was great with the burger overall.

The burger was great sans the pineapple. I really want it to work, but it became the topping that almost ruined the burger.

7/17/2018 Legends #gastromelt

Today, we were in Findlay and decided to stop downtown at Legends. Legends is a quaint pub that is proud of its Findlay athletes. The decor features blown up newspaper articles from different sporting events.

The #gastromelt is an open faced cheeseburger served with sauteed onions, a fried cheese slice, and super secret sauce.

The bun is typically a mayo toasted marble rye. I, however, do not like rye bread. I swapped it out for toasted sour dough. The sour dough was toasted nicely and was not oversized compared to the size of the burger. It complimented the burger well and was an excellent substitute.

The burger is an 8 ounce prime beef patty. It cut easily with a fork. The burger had a lovely charring on the outside but was still soft on the inside. I ordered my burger medium rare. Unfortunately, it came out borderline well done. This was easily forgotten due to flavor of the burger and the juiciness of the burger. I thought that the Patty was the perfect thickness as well. Not too think, but not so thick that all you tasted was burger.

The toppings made this burger. I want a large bottle of the Super Secret Sauce and I want to put it on everything. I decided to eat the sauce first to see if I liked the flavor. It was at first sweet like honey, then moved to almost a tangy mustard taste and finished with a burn in the back of the throat. A very mild burn but full of flavor. The onions were nicely sauteed and balance the sauce nicely. I would have liked the fried cheese slice to have been thicker. You couldn't taste much of the cheese flavor, but the breading on the cheese was well seasoned. It was unfortunate how much of the oil stayed in the breading of the cheese. I think that is why the cheese flavor was lost.

I will definitely be back to Legends for this burger again. I believe I will be craving this burger in the future.

7/12/18: Ralphie's Peach Habanero Burger

Kristina and I headed to Findlay for round two of Ralphie's burgers. This time, I examined the Peach Habanero Burger.

The only topping is the peach habanero jam. I was surprised that there was no additional toppings like cheese. I am not a hot/spicy person as I prefer to have mellow or mild items. I want to TASTE the food and not the burn. This was a nice hit of flavor. The jam starts with a heavy peach flavor...kicks in the habanero...and the peach finishes the bite. Very good.

The patty left a lot on the table. A big no-no for me is getting my burger cooked wrong. I order well done, as noted before, and a good chef can make a well done burger or steak and still have flavor. In this case, the cook mixed up the orders with me and Kristina...her patty was well done, mine was medium. By proxy, I only ate the edges of the burger due to the pink. Of what I sampled, the patty itself offered no flavor.

The bun was meh this time. It did its role, but didn't distract.

Overall, very disappointed with the patty, but the jam was delicious. Down to the bones of it, there is nothing in this burger, really. They slapped a jam on a patty and charged 10 bucks.

7-12-18 Ralphie's Peanut Butter Bacon Burger

Tonight we ordered from Ralphie's in Findlay. We had been here before and had wonderful burgers- see our other reviews. I had heard that once you have peanut butter on a burger that you won't want it any other way.

The bun I believe was made fresh in the kitchen. I think it was homemade because of the way the seeds were sporadically on only half on the bun. It was soft and had black sesame seeds on it. The bun complimented the burger well. It was a solid bun.

The burger was seasoned averagely. I wish there was more salt on the burger. Unfortunately, the burger cook was switched between Nick and I's burger. Mine, regrettably, came out well done and a little dry. I could have forgiven the over cooking of the burger if it would have still been juicy.

The toppings were a surprising combination. The bacon was perfectly cooked. It broke off when you bit into the burger but wasn't overdone. It is the kind of bacon you want to eat more and more. The peanut butter was a little too much. It was so thick that it distracted from the burger. You took a bite, and by the time you swallowed the burger, you still had a mouth full of peanut butter. The thickness of the peanut butter made the burger feel even more dry.

Will I try a peanut butter burger again? Absolutely. Will it be from Ralphie's? No, I will stick with their wonderful queso burger.

6/17/18 - BurgerFi's BurgerFi Cheeseburger

We started RateABurger in April 2016 with the SmashBurger. Had we started things differently, it would've started August 2015 with a place we found in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, named BurgerFi. BurgerFi is an unique venture that believes in bettering the environment and reusing resources. The biggest items they promote is they have their tables made of old milk jugs and their chairs are made of old Coke bottles. Their food is also given a different presentation as their toppings and patties are organic or even prepared different. We tried to find different locations that were near our home...which the Cleveland area was the closest...until now. Kristina and I were off to Chicago and we made a pit stop in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I grew up under an hour away from Fort Wayne, so heading there was not uncommon. We were stopping here to grab some breakfast before heading to Chicago...on our way out of town, we both saw an ad for BurgerFi with a new location in Fort Wayne. We decided we had to stop back.

The toppings on this burger were American cheese and BurgerFi sauce. You are also given the option to add different toppings...in my case I added a hash brown. Flavorful toppings between the oozing cheese and the fresh hash brown. The sauce, had it not been there, would not be needed, but it added to the presentation.

The patty was two Angus beef patties. They were cooked to order and seasoned well. Probably the best patty I have ever had.

The bun did not take away from the burger. It's flavor combined with the charred BurgerFi logo just happened to enhance the burger.

6-17-2018 Burgerfi's the CEO.

This past weekend we stopped in Fort Wayne, Indiana, after spending time in Chicago. We found a restaurant that was enthusiastic about recycling, fresh food, and organic beef.  We had once stopped at Burgerfi in South Carolina and we're excited to see one closer to home.

I ordered the CEO burger. It is a double Wagyu and brisket blend burger with homemade candied bacon tomato jam, truffle aioli, and Swiss cheese.

The bun is a potato bun that has the BurgerFi logo branded into it. It is a soft and sweet bun. It held together well with all of the toppings. It reminded me of Hawaiian bread.

The burger was amazing. The Wagyu part of the burger is a Japanese cow. The meat was seasoned well and juicy.  It had a nice searing from the grill.

The toppings were pretty good. I added a hash brown to this burger. I liked that it was a formed hash brown that stayed together throughout the whole meal.  It was yummy! The candied bacon tomato jam was very sweet. A nice surprise for this burger. The truffle Aioli has also a wonderful addition.

Burgerfi is a wonderful "fast food" chain, and I would encourage you to stop by if you find one.

6-14-2018 Al & Zoe's Fat Boyz cheeseburger

A Thursday afternoon in downtown Toledo is fun! They set up Levis Square with a band, games, and a lot of food trucks. I was excited to see more food trucks then are typically around on a Tuesday at Promenade Park. I found a new truck to try. With a name like Fat Boyz, it's got to be good, right?

The burger came out and I took a big bite expecting to be biting into a food truck burger. The bun surprised me. It was an average store bun. I could have gotten past the bun if it wasn't hard. It probably really was a little stale as it had no sign of being toasted.

The burger was a nice, grilled, thin Patty. Unfortunately, I don't think they added any seasoning to the meat. It almost tasted like a meatloaf that needed gravy and thrown over top of mashed potatoes.

The toppings were nice quality. The lettuce was crisp, and my tomato was juicy and red. The cheddar cheese was melted nicely. The mayo was a nice thick layer.

Overall, this burger was mediocre. If you stop by the food truck I recommend the mozzarella sticks. They were delicious.

6/10/18 Toledo Zoo's Carnivore Cafe Cheeseburger

Kristina and I went to the Toledo Zoo and both of us decided to have and review the Carnivore Cafe Cheeseburger. Click here for Kristina's review.

The toppings presented were shredded lettuce, American cheese and a tomato slice. They did provide packets of toppings at designated stations. Nothing to write home about. Not special, but the tomato slice was about as big as the patty and they did not skimp on the lettuce.

The patty was nothing special it itself. It was overly thin, but it had a decent flavor.

The bun doesn't look "supermarket" quality, but that is probably the best compliment I can give it. It was very spongy, sticky, and took away from the burger itself. The bun was so big, it was bigger than the patty and toppings combined.

If you are feeding X amount of people daily...what really is the expectation of this kind of burger? I would liken it as the burgers at the school cafeteria with the same mentality. Not necessarily bad, but it is obviously quantity over quality.

6-10-18 Toledo Zoo's Carnivore Cafe Cheeseburger

Zoo days are some of my favorite summertime memories. What's even better is when the zoo is free. This year we got zoo tickets as an appreciation gift from my employer.
It seems like when Nick and I go to the zoo, we usually stop at the Carnivore Cafe for lunch. It is great to see how far the zoo has come with the animal habitats. It is strange to think about the animals being kept in the small enclosed encounters previously.

The bun for this burger was an average, seemingly store bought bun. The bun was cold/room temperature. No toasting or warm up. It did surprise me how dense the bread was. It almost reminded me of a pretzel bun. It was chewy.

The burger was grilled and was extra done. I am sad to report no juices were left on the inside of the burger. It appeared to be seasoned with salt and pepper.

The toppings were shredded lettuce, cheese, and a tomato slice. The cheese was cold on top of the burger. The lettuce was wilted. The tomato was almost see through. I do appreciate the condiment packets. This allows you to put on as much as you would like. I used a lot of mayonnaise.

Before I get hate mail for not loving the zoo's food, I know that the likelihood of someone mass producing great burgers is hard. I genuinely love going to the zoo. On a side note though, the food trucks are able to do it. Next time I probably will just order the chicken tenders.

6/8/18 Dark Horse's Italian Burger

Dark Horse is a nice homely restaurant in Findlay, OH, slightly hiding on North Main Street. Kristina and I have stopped here before a couple of times, but we hadn't stopped in since they remodeled the location as well as not rated a burger on here. Here's Kristina's review of the Rail Splitter. Today, I am reviewing their Italian Burger.

The toppings were provolone cheese and their "meat sauce". At first, I was disappointed that I was presented with an open-faced burger (typically reserved for a "sloppy" burger) and there was little sauce. This was not presented as a pizza burger, rather an Italian burger. Pizza burgers you want to have a good amount of sauce. For this burger, the sauce was hiding under the cheese like it was tucked into bed. Not sloppy, but not entirely absent either. Their sauce does have a good flavor. It is not quite your normal spaghetti/marinara sauce, but I could not see this sauce with a pasta and didn't overly compliment the burger with its flavor.

The burger patty was a nice, quarter pound, quality patty. Many places tend to focus on their burgers and do not actually have a quality patty when Dark Horse did have a flavor-full, juicy burger. Very good.

With this being an open-faced burger, I was presented with one bun. It was a spongy bun that was there to do it's job. A step above "supermarket bun" but many steps below a quality bun.

This was a nice change of pace for my reviews, but it did not capture my imagination for a specialty burger. One bun and little sauce can be viewed as a cheap burger despite advertising an open-faced burger. This trick really only works with a double patty burger.

6-8-2018 Dark Horse's Rail Splitter

Nick was working late tonight which meant I got out of cooking. We decided to grab burgers from Dark Horse tonight.

Dark Horse is, what I consider, an under rated restaurant in Findlay. It's prices are fair and it's food solid. Thy are most known for their prime rib. I ordered a Rail Splitter Burger. It is an open face sandwich covered in fries, chili, and cheese.

I appreciated that the bun was toasted and buttery. If the bun has not been nicely toasted. I don't think this sandwich would have worked at all.  The buttery flavor of the bun added something special to the burger. Something was, however, over salted, and I could not tell is it was the bun or chilli. The bun cut fairly easily after having set for a minute.

The toppings in this burger were almost overwhelming. There is such a thing as too many chili cheese fries. Dark horse flirted with the line, tonight. The fries were salty and crispy. The chilli was sweet and chunky. The mild cheddar cheese over the top of everything was lost. Most bites I did not realize if there was cheese in it.

The burger was slightly lost in the toppings. It was a nicely pressed patty. The Patty was modestly seasoned. This helped to balance the whole plate well. The burger meat was a very nice quality. It was juicy and not greasy. This burger is defiantly a comfort food.

6-5-2018 Jeanie's Paleo Burger with Cheese

Burgers are probably the best summer food. You can dress them up with such a variety of toppings and have so many different sandwiches. Today is food truck Tuesday.

Jeanie's is an adorable food truck based out of the Toledo area. They won't be hard to find as their truck resembles an ambulance. There prices are very reasonable as well. Today, I ordered the Paleo burger with cheese. I love cheese so much that I needed to add it to this burger.

Their is not a typical bun for me to rate as the bun is lettuce leaves. The leaves were fresh but pliable. The lettuce had a good flavor and not sour. The deep green lettuce adds such an appeal to the burger.

The toppings are some of my favorite parts of the burger. The tomato was a nice thick dark red slice. It is probably the reddest and juiciest tomato I have had all season. It taste like it came fresh out of the garden. The avocado was ripe and delicious as well. The sisters that run the food truck know how to pick their produce. You could also have pickle, onion, and mayo put on the burger if you wanted. There were additional toppings and sauces you could place on your food on a table outside of the truck. The cheese was a lovely addition.

The burger is a wonderful hand pressed patty. It is packed in a way that your burger stays together, but almost melts in your mouth. It is seasoned well. It is a perfect summer treat. There is not a lot I would change about this burger.

5/29/18 King's Concessions' Donut Burger

There are many things that come to someone's mind when they read or hear "Donut Burger", including "Why?" and "Nope." Instead, I looked at it as an opportunity. I have had pineapple burgers, chorizo burgers, apple burgers, but never a donut burger. There was a gathering of food trucks over at The Centre in Bluffton, OH and I had my chance.

Instead of my normal review, there is really no way I can break this up in explanation. The default burger is a normal patty with cheese and bacon, sandwiched between two full Krispy Kreme donuts. Most donut burgers or sandwiches I have seen only use one donut, cut in half. This is two complete donuts as the bun. They also put the donuts on the griddle to warm it up. Kristina and I had just talked about how much she loves a warm donut. The only way I have had a warm donut was leaving a bag of them in the car on a summer day. Overall, this should not work. This should not be a good burger...but it was.

The patty takes a back seat to the combination of donut glaze and bacon. The donut itself almost melts in your mouth as the glaze washes over the bacon. I do not like candied bacon, but I can take this any day. The salt off the bacon was a great compliment to the sweetness of the glaze. Factor in the cheese, melting on the donut, and add in my love for a cheeseburger...this was a great combination. And while the patty did take a back seat, sort of speak, the patty did not have anything special to offer. That is not necessarily a bad thing for this burger, as too much of a seasoning would take away from this burger, but I do not know if I would've enjoyed a different version of their burgers with this patty.

5/29/2018 Jimmy G's Bacon Brisket Cheeseburger

Tuesdays in Promenade Park are becoming my favorite day of the week. You would have thought over Memorial Day Weekend I would have gotten my fill of the grill, but when someone says there will be food trucks today....you go!

I went down the line of trucks and saw that Jimmy G's truck was back. I had one of the highest rated burgers at this truck a few weeks ago. I thought I should go back and see if my experience could be replicated.

Today, I ordered the B2. It is a bacon brisket cheeseburger. I also ordered a small fry- you should definitely order the fries, but since this isn't a fry review, I will move on.  I was not disappointed with my repeat visit to this truck.

The bun had to be fresh. It was so soft and sweet. It completely made the bun worth the carbs. I would not be surprised if the bun was homemade or purchased from a local bakery.

The patty had a nice slight charring to the outside and the inside of the burger melted in your mouth. The burger had the perfect blend of spices. I'm not sure how you would improve the smoky flavor or this burger.

Toppings are sometimes my favorite part of the cheeseburger. They can save a just OK burger, or they can make a good burger amazing. This truck knows how to use the toppings to make the burger amazing. They do not skimp on the cheese. I truly appreciate a burger that you can taste all of the toppings throughout the entire sandwich. I chose sauteed onions to be added to the burger. The bacon was also smoked. It was done in such a way that you could easily cut or bite pieces off, but it did not snap and fall apart like it was overdone.

This burger is so good. It is definitely a knife and fork burger. You feel like you got your money's worth with the serving sizes. I am excited to try the other items on the menu in the future and hope to someday visit their restaurant in Fremont. If you are in the mood for a delicious smoky burger, find out where the truck is going to be at for the day or drive to Fremont.

5/29/2018 Triple D's Concession's bacon cheeseburger

Bluffton Ohio did a Food Truck Rally tonight and I am impressed with the turn out and love the town and surrounding areas showed to all of the trucks.

Tonight I had a bacon cheeseburger from Triple D's. I love Guy from food network, and I know their name is different, but they immediately caught my interest. They have won awards for their donut burger, but I wasn't feeling adventurous this evening. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger.

I was impressed by the speed they were able to assemble the burgers. I also was impressed with the variety of toppings you could order on your burger. I went for mayo, onions and BBQ sauce to be added since I was in a simple mood this evening.

The bun was an average bun. Nothing good or bad to say about it. It did it's job and held the burger together. The bun was soft which I always prefer.

The toppings were plenty. I love biting into a burger and knowing I am going to need the napkins. The BBQ sauce they used had a nice smokey heat. The onions I ordered were freshly sauteed. I appreciated having the option of having them raw or sauteed.

The patty was what you would want if you wanted a quick, greasy, delicious, and not good for you type of burger. It screamed food truck all wrapped up in a foil pouch. The meat was seasoned well and made you smile a little when eating it

5/22/2018 Two Foxes' Foghorn Burger

Today we ended up in Bowling Green after the evenings plans changed. We decided to  stop by Two Foxes to try their burgers. Two Foxes is a quaint gastropub. The beautiful old style of the ceiling tiles give you something to look at. If the tiles aren't your style the whole back of the bar is a chalkboard with the drink menu and chalk drawings.

I ordered the Foghorn burger. This burger should come with a napkin warning. It is a burger that defiantly needs two hands. It came with a fried egg, bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce, and maple mayo.
You had the option of a pretzel or brioche bun. I chose the brioche bun. It seemed to be very lightly toasted. It was such a soft bun. It had to be fresh.

The burger was exactly what you want in a burger. The outside was slightly charred. The inside was so juicy it almost fell apart in your mouth. You barely had to chew the burger it was so tender. I would have liked to have just a little more salt and pepper on the burger.

The toppings were delicious. The bacon was perfectly cooked. You could bite off a piece without pulling out the whole piece or having it turn to dust in your mouth. The lettuce was shredded and was just the right amount for the burger. The fried egg was fried over medium, and the loose yolk was a wonderful addition to the burger. The Swiss cheese complimented everything. The maple mayo was a wonderful surprise. I was worried about the combination on a burger. It had a lovely sweetness and heat. I would love to have if bottled and try it on several other foods.
I will be back many times for this burger.

5/22/18 Two Foxes' Pineapple Express Burger

There are two reviews from this location. To view the other review, please check out Kristina's try at the Foghorn Burger.

Two Foxes' Gastropub is a small location in Bowling Green, Ohio. I decided to have their Pineapple Express Burger with a side of sweet potato wedges.

The toppings are bacon, barbecue sauce, lettuce, Swiss cheese, and scotch poached pineapple. The toppings compliment each other tremendously. The bacon was cooked correctly, there was just enough barbecue sauce that did not overwhelm the rest. The pineapple brought that sweet taste that balanced the burger nicely.

The bun was above average. The bun pictured was what I ordered, however; they do offer a pretzel bun.

The patty was a decent size, cooked to my liking, and ultimately did not take away or really add to the burger. You can eat this patty with nothing on it and you would still have a quality burger.

Overall, this has been one of my best-tasting burgers in some time. I cannot justify making a negative mark towards this burger and highly suggest it.

5/15/2018 The Beastro Burger's B.O.S.S. burger

Today was food truck Tuesday. I am looking forward to trying several local food truck burgers over the coming months. In Promenade Park you could find The Beastro Burger truck on this rainy Tuesday afternoon.

The aroma from the truck made your mouth water as you walked up to order. I looked at the menu options and settled on the b.o.s.s. burger. It has bacon, onions, Swiss, and shrooms. There also was mayonnaise and fresh veggies you could add go the burger. There's nothing quiet like watching your burger cook on the grill in front of you.

The bun was an average bun and did it's job. There isn't a lot of room in a food truck for baking bread, so the store bought bun was expected. I did appreciate that they toasted it on the grill before assembling the burger. It was nice to have the bun to burger ratio match up nicely, and not have one be overwhelming.

The burger was made with what seemed like very fresh meat. It was seasoned well and did not need any additional salt and pepper. The burger had a nice sear on the outside. The burger was well done, but I wasn't asked a preference of how I would like it cooked. This made it a little too dry for my taste. Either that, or I needed more mayonnaise and cheese.

The toppings on this burger paired nicely together. I wish there would have been more cheese on this burger. If I hadn't watched them put it on my burger I wouldn't have none it was there. The mushrooms were also lacking. There were only 3-4 slices on the entire burger. The bacon was perfectly done, and the onions were nicely sauteed. I am a topping fanatic, if you can not tell. I like it when there are enough toppings I need to use both hands or use a knife and fork. I barely needed a napkin for the b.o.s.s. burger.

If you get a chance to visit this food truck, I would recommend getting a burger and pairing it with their fresh cut fries. It is a solid burger joint that will scratch your burger itch.

5/1/2018 Jimmy G's Bacon Brisket Cheeseburger with Pulled Pork

FOOOOD TRUCKS!
Today at work, several food trucks parked in the park near my office building. I knew in an instant I had to find one selling a burger! Boy am I glad I found Jimmy G's. I will be eating this burger every time I see this truck.
The bun was a delicious house made bun. It was soft and warm. It almost had a sweet flavor. It made the bun worth eating.

The burger had a wonderful smoky flavor. It was extremely juicy and melted in your mouth. It was a medium thickness burger which was perfect for the sandwich.

The toppings on this burger were some of the best. The pulled pork was juicy and had a great smoky and pepper flavor. One thing that makes or breaks a burger for me is cheese. There was plenty of cheese for the whole sandwich. The bacon, I believe, also was smoked. I chose the sweet heat BBQ sauce. It matched the burger perfectly.

The whole time I was eating the burger, I kept thinking about how this is one of the best burgers I've had in a very long time. I also learned they have an actual restaurant in Fremont. So if you can't find the truck, I recommend stopping by if you are in the area.

4/20/18 Viking Korner's Double Cheeseburger

We visited Leipsic's Viking Korner before visiting family. I took the time to try their double cheeseburger.

The toppings are mainly a "choose and pick" scenario. I went for a generic ketchup and mustard.

The burger itself was not bad, but not distinct from another location of this caliper. No seasoning, no charred taste, just cooked. A step up from a frozen Patty, but nothing special.

The bun is a typical "bun from package" with no flavoring or cooked flavors.

Overall, the burger suits the need, but you wouldn't go to this place just for this burger.

4/6/18 Huntington Center's Walleye Burger

Kristina and I made it to the Huntington Center to watch the Toledo Walleye against the Fort Wayne Comets. While Toledo did not come away with the victory, I was looking to come away with a victory with the Walleye Burger.

The burger's toppings is what I was expecting - plain...with or without cheese. This is not a downfall from the burger as you are going to a sporting arena...you are not expecting a top-tier burger. They do offer a sport to put condiments, but no lettuce or tomato. They do have other burgers at this arena, but we could not get to them.

The burger was a decent, not stand-out patty. Could've been a frozen patty to start, but outside shape, you couldn't tell. No seasonings were on the burger at all.

The bun is a standard hamburger bun. No bells or whistles.

This burger may come off as one with faults, but it is exactly what you are looking for in a stadium burger. You are not coming to watch a game for a burger that will distract you from the game. You want a burger that will not cost too much and will satisfy the need. This does both.
